Protect yourself
The first step in an emergency situation is to protect your family. To prepare your family for a disaster, be sure to create your family disaster plan, and have your disaster supply kit ready BEFORE a storm approaches.
Once you have your family secure, you need to prepare your home, your pets, your boat or watercraft, and be sure you have proper insurance coverage. Many times flood damage and hurricane damage to your home are not covered without adding coverage.
For hazard-specific information, select a link from the menu at right. Here you will find safety information for hurricanes, floods, fire, tornadoes, lightning, hazardous materials, terrorism and a newly added section on protecting yourself from pandemic flu.
